According to UNHCR, by the end of 2015 there were 121, 645 refugees and 1, 096, 063 asylum seekers in South Africa. SA is among the largest recipients of asylum claims in the world. Zimbabweans are the largest nationality group among asylum seekers. Refugees in SA originate mainly from Somalia (41, 500), DRC (32, 600), Angola and Ethiopia.

Remittance inflow: USD $ 820 is estimated in 2016, down from USD $ 825 million in 2015. 0,3 % of GDP in 2015. Remittance outflow: USD $ 980 million in 2015, down from USD $ 1, 094 million in 2014.
