Launch of the Regional Migration and Health Strategy for Southwestern Islands of the Indian Ocean

Port Louis, 15 December 2017 – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) together with the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) launched the Regional Strategy for Migration and Health 2016 - 2018: Priorities among the Southwestern Islands of the Indian Ocean. The Strategy was launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, Honourable Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo, as the IOC Council of Ministers’ current chair, in presence of High Level representatives from the IOC Member States’ Ministries and key public institutions with sectoral responsibilities on health and migration as well as United Nations, private sector and civil society representatives involved in migration and health issues. With this Strategy, IOM’s Partnership on Health and Mobility for East and Southern Africa Program (PHAMESA) will contribute to improved migrants’ health and well-being through the delivery of evidence-based programmes to the IOC and its Member States.
