UNHCR: in June 2015, there were 2,164 refugees residing in Botswana and 248 asylum seekers, mostly Somali and also Congolese, Namibian, Zimbabwean, Burundian and Ethiopian. There were 236 refugees and 116 asylum seekers from Botswana.

The international migrant stock consists mainly of persons coming from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, India and UK.

Botswana is a source, transit, and destination country for irregular migration and trafficking especially women and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor.

Remittance inflow: USD $ 28 million is estimated in 2016, down from USD $ 31 million in 2015. 0,2 % of GDP in 2015. Remittance outflow: USD $ 96 million in 2015, up from USD $ million in 2014.
